Q - What are After-School Specials?
A - These workshops are intended to boost our student enrollment while not adding to students' work load. There will be no homework assigned, and the classes will only go from 4 to 5 weeks, with most of them being only once a week. We scheduled these for the afternoon, evening, and early morning.
Q - Can I sign up if I am restricted in my hours?
A - These are treated like field trips. We call them workshops because they occur over several weeks. These do not go against your regular weekly hours if you're under any hourly restrictions with AllPrep. If your student hours are at 15, though, we will not be able to enroll you, just as we would not be able to sign you up for field trips.
Q - Will there be waiting lists?
A - No. We are asking you to do something very different than we've done in the past. Since we'd like you to sign up for as many of these workshops as your schedule will permit, if there are two workshops at the same time, you should submit the online form for the one you want most, and the second choice after that. These will go into our system in the order received. If there's room in the first choice, the second choice will be ignored. However, if the first choice is full, we'll try to get you into the second choice.
Q - Do I have to register online, or can I sign up at the front desk?
A - We are trying to keep the receptionists unburdened to better assist families. You MUST sign up online. If you are not comfortable using computers or do not have access, please come to HomeSource and we will have someone in a study lab assist you in filling out the form online. Our study labs and laptops are available for you at HomeSource for the purpose of registration. Submissions received will be entered daily in the order they are submitted. An updated Open/Closed list will be posted on the web each day.
Q - How do I register online?
A - Look through the After-School Specials catalog and select all the workshops that interest you. Make a list of them in the order of the day and time, as well as the order of preference if the day and time is the same. USING THE LINK PROVIDED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, submit the workshop registrations in the order on your list, filling in all required fields. Wait for the student schedules to be posted on the HomeSource website. We will try to post these daily, but the final schedules will be posted the day after After-School Specials registration ends, Friday, 2/12.
Q - Will I receive notification somehow?
A - Yes. Rather than mailing (which is expensive) or phone calling, your student's schedule of After-School Specials will be available on the web - BY THEIR STUDENT NUMBER. This will provide some privacy. If you need assistance, like looking up your student's number, please ask the front desk and they will be glad to look it up for you. If you cannot print the schedule from home, feel free to drop by one of our study labs and the staff will be glad to help you. There will be no charge for printing your student's schedule here at HomeSource.
Q - Do I have to stay on-site with my student?
A - Parents of K-8 students who are able to leave a phone number with the After-School Special teachers, will be able to leave the site for the 90 minutes if necessary. This temporary suspension of the requirement to be onsite or use a designated parent applies only to the After-School Specials and Tues. evening workshops, but does not apply to the two Morning Specials . If you cannot leave a number, you must stay or have an onsite designated parent. Of course, parents are always welcome to stay, but we recognize that it could be burdensome to expect parents with young children to stay that late for an extra workshop.
Q - Do they cost anything?
A - Some of the workshops have fees. Since we are not accepting online payment at this time, we ask that you calculate your fees due and pay them at the front desk with the envelopes provided. Please put the student names and course numbers for the After-School Specials on the envelope so we will credit it properly. Payment should be made within a couple business days, and definitely before the workshop begins. Unpaid students will not be permitted to attend workshops having fees.
Q - Do the After-School Specials count toward my student's 15-hour maximum?
A - YES! Students already at 15 hours should not sign up (and we thank you for your support!). Students close to 15 hours may be able to do this if it attendance stays close to that for the time of the workshops.
Q - Can I drop a regular class or skip it for a while in order take an After-School Special?
A - No. Sorry, but we have staffed our regular classes in such a way that we count on your student's attendance there throughout the term.
Q - How do I drop an After-School Special once I've registered for it?
A - Just send an e-mail to homesource@betheltech.com with the name of the After-School Special, and your student's name and number, and the instructions for us to drop the student.
